I have a love hate relationship with Windows 95. A day never passed when I didn't have to reset the computer while online. If I was lucky, the computer would last up to 4 or 5 hours before freezing up, it was more likely after an hour to 90 minutes most days.

I've been wanting to re-locate this movie for well over 20 years. I saw some of it once by chance & kept in mind but never turned-up anywhere. Couldn't recall title either. All I remembered was that Gig Young was in it, playing either a prisoner or a German, my vague image being of the latter. Knew it was set in a German prison camp, a rather ritzy, elegant one! Just recently, I finally decided to make another all-out push to find it, especially since there are so many more old films available now on You Tube. So here it is at long-last, hooray, with beautifully restored audio & sharp, crisp, b&w film quality! I've paused it temporarily only because much of the dialogue is SO fast-paced, it began to wear me out, especially Robert Montgomery. Gig Young is fine in this regard, speaking at a normal pace; most of rest of Germans, though, just SO rapid, whew! Then, with all the subtleties in their sly interrogation methods, I found it hard to focus & follow, getting lost in the minutia of it all. I'll return to it soon, though, after I've had a respite, about 45 minutes or so to go, maybe a little less. It IS a very original, out-of-the-ordinary WW2 film, & very compelling.

This makes me oddly appreciative of advancements but also so thankful for complete that even mundane tasks can be reanalyzed with a little whimsy. Once stuff like this is committed to memory and part of your daily routine it's interesting to remember a time when you didn't know lol. I still learn useful shortcuts to this day.
